Our History

Established in 2012, PYDA embarked on a journey to empower unemployed youth for significant economic participation and active community engagement. This initiative was based on extensive research and stakeholder analysis, leading to the launch of a pilot programme in June 2013, initially targeting the wine sector. This programme has since evolved into PYDA’s flagship offering, characterised by an adaptive curriculum ensuring relevance and effectiveness.

PYDA distinguishes itself through a deep commitment to personal development, recognising it as a cornerstone for achieving lasting transformation in its participants. Over time, PYDA has diversified its curriculum to meet the evolving needs of various industries, offering courses in Marketing, Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), and Occupational Health & Safety. This approach integrates personal development with vocational training, setting its graduates apart in the competitive job market.

The programmes at PYDA are designed to furnish participants with critical skills, confidence, and a forward-looking mindset, essential for securing employment and actively participating in the economy. PYDA aims to counteract inequality by harnessing social capital and networks to open avenues for career progression.

PYDA’s holistic approach incorporates coaching and psychological support, equipping young people to navigate life’s demands, including in the workplace. Consequently, PYDA graduates are well-prepared to be leaders in both their professional and community environments.

The effectiveness of PYDA’s model is exemplified by the success of its Wine Practitioner Programme, which boasts a 90% employment rate within the first six months after course completion among around 600 graduates over the past decade. This achievement is supported by strategic industry partnerships, enhancing the relevance and outcomes of the programmes.
